Bio

The Jasmins are Roland Staring (vocals, rhythm guitar), Matthieu van Dam (drums), Ferdinand Cornelissen (solo guitar) and Robbie Korver (vocals, bass). The music from the Jasmins is often referred to as indy pop with singer-songwriter influences.

The story of The Jasmins starts with the fortunate encounter of Ype Driessen and Roland Staring in the late 90s somewhere in Scotland. Upon acquaintance they instantly decide to make music, probably based on their mutual interest in music. The Jasmins are named after Jasminstreet, which is a street in the town of Utrecht in the Netherlands where Roland Staring and his friend from University, Ype Driessen started writing songs together in 1997.
However, two persons do not make the full band they envisaged and subsequently a drummer (Eric Dobbelstein), bassist (Mark Vieregge) and guitarist (Pieter-Jan van Helvoort) are attracted to form The Jasmins in 2001. With this formation the songs get the typical smooth and guitar oriented sound of The Jasmins. The Jasmins release their debut album “The Jasmins” in 2004, containing 14 wonderful songs on life in all its intricacies. With Ype and Roland working together as songwriters and now backed up with a fully formed band two more albums are released: the sophomore “Eskimo” in 2006 and “Ready” in 2008. The latter album has drummer Eric Dobbelstein replaced by Matthieu van Dam.

After the “Ready” album The Jasmins have gone through quite some changes. Ype Driessen never officially left the band, but since “Ready” Roland Staring has been responsible for most of the songwriting. Furthermore Mark Vieregge left and was shortly replaced by Javier Garcia Vincente who left again to join the Matt Schofield band in 2009. A recent new line-up with the groovy drums of Matthieu van Dam the warm Gibson rock sound of Ferdinand Cornelissen and the soulful and steady sound of bass player Robbie Korver, mix up to a magical musical matrimony. With these changes to the lineup a new sound emerges. Still based on beautifully crafted songs, the sound has matured and gained in dynamics and originality. The results of which can be heard on the EP “Yellow” which was released in 2009.

In this new lineup the The Jasmins are currently working on new songs, a new sound and will be back on stage this summer.
